Tree carvings

We don't always take the time to appreciate what is in our own local neighbourhood, do we? When taking Shannon to work last evening we drove past the local Basketball Stadium and couldn't resist taking some photos of the tree carvings. These tree carvings line a local suburban street and although they look out of place in the street setting they also strangely fit in with the environment. They are mostly native flora and fauna and are carved from old dead or dangerous cypress tree trunks that would otherwise have been removed completely. The greyed weathered look is very appealling.

I wonder what strange things I'll find around the neighbourhood today.

Beauty is Fleeting

Walking around the garden today I couldn't help but notice how the Summer temperatures have played havoc. The plants are starting to curl their leaves trying to protect themselves from moisture loss while the flowers are shrivelling up and dying off. The lawn is turning brown in more places than it is green and becoming increasingly prickly underfoot. In the scorching heat today I am grateful for the shade of the trees.

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying."

Rain, rain come again......

Cheers,
Lynda

Party Pics

It was a wild night. 18 year olds sure know how to party! The theme was 'i can't believe you wore that to my 18th' and most people dressed to impress.  There was a scuba diver, a bubble wrap girl, a fire fighter, football players, teenage mutant ninja turtles, a school girl and many other costumes.  Ben took care of the lights and music and the atmosphere was 'party to the max'.

18 and legal and she is going to turn all my hair grey!

Always something to do in the garden

With the revelation that we are to host a birthday party very soon my common sense said I should clean up the yard in preparation. The body wasn't too willing to oblige but I have made a start. Summer is not the best time here for the garden. It is too hot and dry usually and everything is shrivelled and lack lustre. This year we are lucky because we have had  mild temperatures and more rain. I'm surprised the grass is still mostly green!

Someone asked for garden photos so who am I not to deliver.

Spot the dog
.
Is he planking, hah!

Have to eat these before the cockatoos and possums get them
The blood plums are ripe for the picking now. The tree is heavy with fruit and I foresee some jam making in the next few days.  Fresh fruit straight from the tree is one of my favourite things of Summer.

The garden is never done. I'm never completely happy with it. It's rather rambling and informal but I love to spend time walking the meditation spiral or contemplating under the shade of the trees or looking out over the Gully.  We just won't mention the weeds!

Lynda

So pretty

Have you seen the glow in the dark jars all over the internet? For a fun activity  to do for New Year's eve we made some of these glow jars. They worked extremely well and looked so pretty in the dark. I won't give credit for the idea to anyone in particular. There are too many sites describing how to make these all over the internet now and I can remember them from way back in the 80s.

They would be a pretty decoration for a night time party as long as they were hung in a safe spot.

Lynda

Christmas all wrapped up in plastic

It's hot, too hot! The temperature is 35C, correction 39C, in Melbourne right now and humidity is at 100%. Granted it is not as hot as it can get but the day is still young. In Melbourne anything can happen.

We are taking the opportunity to stay indoors and pack away the lights and decorations that have adorned the house and Christmas tree for long enough. It's good to have the house back in some sort of order. I'm rather fond of all the decorations that we have collected over the years but I also like the space, light and neutral colour scheme of my cosy little home. So it is back to normal now and I like that! It seems calmer even if only in my head.

Don't you just love the feeling of a fresh new year?
Bring it on!

Cheers,
Lynda

Another year over...

a new one just begun!

Wishing you all a very happy and successful 2012. I hope it is your best year this far and sees many of your dreams come true. Thank you to my family and friends including all my online friends across all the social sites that I visit (way too often I might add) who helped to make the past year wonderful. I look forward to sharing and caring again in 2012.

"Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." Plato Wasn't he clever!

With that quote in mind I share a favourite song with you. In 2012 I hope you dance!

Be safe, be honest, be loving,
Cheers,
Lynda
