"Oh! darkly, deeply, beautifully blue" Lord Byron

Is there anything more heavenly than this..

...not today anyway!  I've sniffed it, caressed it, drooled over it, bragged about it and I am in love with it.
Thanks Erin, you're the best!

A bit of crochet

I was looking for a project that required very little concentration and one that I could pick up and put down at will and not have to worry too much about what row I was working or trying to read charts etc. This pattern was a perfect choice. It proved a great take along project for the hospital visits and is working up very fast. The pattern is Hobobird by Anastacia Zittel. It would look gorgeous with alternating colours for the two row pattern but I settled with a solid colour because it was all I had on hand. I wished I had enough Noro Kureyon for this project but not to be this time!

I'm about halfway done with this project and blocking will help define the pattern. I love the holes. This can be made in any weight yarn and it is a top down shawl so can be made to any size.

A simple sewing project

I've been itching to get the sewing machine out and sew something for ages now. This is not the project I had in mind to start but I made several owls from the Applique Crochet Owl pattern by Anji Beane and I needed a project that would highlight one of these cute little owls. I decided on a simple bag made from fabric scraps for Kaylee to use to store some of her toys or books. I'll let her decide what she wants to put in it.

It felt good to do some sewing (other than fancy dress costumes that I have made far too many of lately) and I am sure Kaylee will like to put some books or something in it.

A Very Braidy Cowl

This cowl is A Very Braidy Cowl by Maryse Roudier and the yarn I chose for this project is Moda Vera Fauna. I love the muted greys and off white in this yarn. It reminds me of the winter skies during an electrical thunder storm. The wide cables give this project a soft, squishy look and suit the texture of yarn as well. It was super easy and quick to knit up and the effect is gorgeous.

I wish I had done the provisional cast on and grafted the ends together for a better finish but the seam is fairly well hidden by the cables squishing up when the cowl is being worn and overall I don't mind the seam. Actually I think I like the seam better than having to do the Kitchener Stitch!

Applique Owl

This is a very cute pattern for an applique owl. It's designed by Anji Beane. It didn't say anywhere on the pattern if it uses American or English crochet terms. I made it using English crochet terms which made a smallish owl (just the way I wanted it). I used scraps of Noro Kureyon Sock yarn in colours to compliment the stitching on the denim pocket.

Off to make some more of these!

Horses for courses

One little miss has just started horse riding lessons.

I think she will make a super little horse rider because she has had lots of experience with horses :)

One of her favourite things to do is sit on the saddle and pretend to go riding but yesterday she added the hobby horse so now the sofa horse has a head!

Loose Change

I found this set at the Op Shop for 99 cents. Naive and sweet and just the right size for loose change.

Athletics Carnival

"Sometimes a winner is just a dreamer who never gave up."
Today Shannon was the dreamer! Blue team gave it their best shot but red team up and won the day.

The day was cool and overcast with several showers and it was lucky that the day wasn't cancelled. Many of the girls dressed up in their team colours and cheered their teams and they all agreed it was a lot more fun than doing school work!

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree” Emily Bronte

The cool, foggy mornings have arrived and the mist lingers longer on the mountain but there is not an Autumn leaf in sight. Autumn, my equal favourite season with Spring, has arrived. It seems for the most part that Summer skipped Melbourne this year and the Spring rains are merging into Autumn showers. The garden would usually be dry and withered off and the lawns a prickly expanse of golden brown. We had some hot days but not many and the lawns are still lush and green and the garden is looking pretty as a picture. So today, in celebration of the first day of Autumn, I will share with you an artwork inspired by this season. It was made by Ben and represents Autumn leaves blowing in the wind. It is made of wire and glass. The sun hasn't managed to break through the clouds today even though it tried hard so the fiery colours of gold through reds are not so apparent in the photos.
