I must admit that I am a collector of things. I find it difficult to part with sentimental pieces that bring back wonderful memories. It is usually the things of no value to anyone else that I want to keep and I am often in trouble from the family for the silly little items that I treasure.
While I was out shopping I found some really cute scented wooden disks and as soon as I saw them I knew I had the perfect place for them.
This small rustic pottery dish was made by Ross years ago. I could never part with it because it was the first Mother's Day gift that he made for me at school. I loved it then and I still love it all these years on. I've used it as a candle holder and a trinket dish and just as an ornament in the cabinet. I love the gaudy colours, blotchy paint job and the quirky wee legs.
Isn't it just the perfect dish for this wooden pot pourri.

I love you with all my heart for all my life.

The things we do for kids
I can see the funny side to this story now but this morning it was a different matter all together!
On Thursdays my daughter has a short day at university - one lecture, two and half hours. Consequently this morning I had to take her to her course and wait two and bit hours for her to finish as the university is over an hour's drive away and I would have spent all of the two hours travelling anyway. I thought I could find a shady park nearby and spend the time knitting on the Guernsey Wrap by Jared Flood that I am working on at the moment and also with the idea that two hours knitting would catch me up a little. To mix it up I also grabbed the mitered crosses blanket square to work on if I tired of working on the wrap. All was good! Well I thought all was good. In fact, I couldn't find a shady park so I decided to sit in the car in the carpark and I promptly got out the wrap to begin my hours of knitting and to my horror I had left the pattern at home. For your information (Erin) I needed the pattern because I was about to start on the new chart which I thought varied from Chart A (you know because you are so far ahead of me). Oh well I thought, I will work on the mitered crosses blanket. I shoved the wrap back in the knitting bag and dragged out the mitered square. At least I had grabbed an extra ball of yarn so I could work on several squares if time permitted. Nothing was going my way because in my haste to start knitting I dropped one of the needles between the front seats and no amount of looking could find that needle. That job is going to have to wait for Ash to delve deeper and maybe remove the seat or maybe it is lost forever. Mmm the day did not go to plan. I had one tiny bit of luck in that lying in the bottom of the knitting bag was my Les Miserables wrap by Cynthia Parker complete with pattern. By this time I had lost all inclination to knit but I managed a few rows and was happy that I did actually have something to work on.
The Les Miserables wrap is coming along nicely. I have a way to go with it yet but I can tell I am going to love it.
Erin, I think you are the only person who might get a giggle out of that story although Shannon did find it rather hillarious! In my crystal ball I can see her very clearly taking the 3 buses or two trains and a bus and a long walk that it takes to get to the university. Shame about the 5 hour round trip on the public transport!
I'll be back doing it all again next week but I'll be going shopping instead!
Cheers,
Lynda

Sugar Overload
Shannon was given a fairy floss maker as a present from one of her friends and although Shannon wasn't home at the time today seemed the perfect day to test it out. I'm not even going to try and suggest anyone eat this stuff. After all it is all pure spun sugar but it was a super fun activity, it looks very pretty and it tastes just like the fairy floss at the fair. What's not to like about a teeny tiny bit! One teaspoon of sugar makes a large ball of floss and there is more sugar than that in a lot of other foods so I think moderation in all things is the key. This one has no artificial colouring - does that count!

Tree carvings
We don't always take the time to appreciate what is in our own local neighbourhood, do we? When taking Shannon to work last evening we drove past the local Basketball Stadium and couldn't resist taking some photos of the tree carvings. These tree carvings line a local suburban street and although they look out of place in the street setting they also strangely fit in with the environment. They are mostly native flora and fauna and are carved from old dead or dangerous cypress tree trunks that would otherwise have been removed completely. The greyed weathered look is very appealling.
I wonder what strange things I'll find around the neighbourhood today.

Beauty is Fleeting
Walking around the garden today I couldn't help but notice how the Summer temperatures have played havoc. The plants are starting to curl their leaves trying to protect themselves from moisture loss while the flowers are shrivelling up and dying off. The lawn is turning brown in more places than it is green and becoming increasingly prickly underfoot. In the scorching heat today I am grateful for the shade of the trees.
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying."
Rain, rain come again......

Lynda

Party Pics
It was a wild night. 18 year olds sure know how to party! The theme was 'i can't believe you wore that to my 18th' and most people dressed to impress. There was a scuba diver, a bubble wrap girl, a fire fighter, football players, teenage mutant ninja turtles, a school girl and many other costumes. Ben took care of the lights and music and the atmosphere was 'party to the max'.
18 and legal and she is going to turn all my hair grey!
Cheers,
Lynda
