The Cladonia

One of the projects that I have been working on is the Cladonia by Kirsten Kapur. The pattern is an enjoyable knit and at one point I was up to  the bind off row. When I picked the knitting up again to begin the bind off I noticed a yarn over in the wrong place which made a small but noticeable hole and I knew it was there so I decided to rip back to fix the mistake. It was easily done and I was happy that I had to knit just a couple of rows to the bind off. Wrong! When I went to get the Cladonia to work on late today this is what I found lying on my bed.

A little someone had decided to help. I'm not sure if she was trying to knit or copy me fixing the mistake but all the stitches were off the needles and several rows were pulled out. The only thing to do was to keep ripping back to the beginning of the black lace portion and start again. It was easier to start over than try and determine where all the yarn overs were supposed to be and now that I have all the stitches back on the needle I can laugh about it. I think the lesson here is don't let kids see you doing something unless you want them to do it too!

A moment of madness

While I was out browsing in Adairs linen store the other day a  crocheted throw caught my eye. I would have bought it except that it was $475 and I knew I could make one nearly identical to it so I left the store before I was tempted to add that to my already expensive purchase. I had chosen a light grey and white quilted cover and matching pillowcases and all the way home I was wondering how I was going to make the throw and what yarn I would use that would compliment my new purchase.

I had the perfect solution. A somewhat crazy solution but it is working..

I had the right colour yarn, a lovely wool yarn, but it was too thick and I needed more of it. To make my yarn stretch as far as I could I separated it into three strands. Now my yarn is thin lace weight but perfect for the crochet pattern and I have three times as much yarn. To replicate this throw I needed it to be light as a feather and large enough to squish up and look soft and comfy.

To make the throw I am using one of the variations of the Japanese flower motif and joining them together and crocheting in many of the ends as I go. The yarn is a medium grey with a very slight lighter grey fleck through it. I planned to make the whole thing in the grey but I may add a splash of colour by using something different for a select few of the motifs.

It is growing surprisingly fast and the motif is addictive to work.

I'm loving it already!

The old XY Falcon

Anyone who knows Ross knows he loves his old car. He bought it years ago with the idea of doing it up in his spare time.  His main vehicle is an XR6 Falcon Ute but his heart lies only with his 1971 XY Ford Falcon. He was recently asked if he would allow it to be featured on the popular prime time television show Neighbours. You can image how happy this made him and of course his answer was YES please!

Finally the day came and he took the day off work to take the car to the studio where he met the crew and watched the filming. His car featured over two episodes.  The storyline was based around the 1971 muscle car as the mechanics worked to fix the loss in power. As we watched the episode we were all laughing at the dialogue because this car flies like the wind and it definitely doesn't need anymore power!

Here are a few photos of the old car as it appeared on Neighbours.

Ross actually received a mighty good payment for the car's appearance and he thinks that was the easiest money he has ever made! He would have happily let them use it for nothing. For Ross it was more about the glory of having his beloved car on TV :)

Finished Baby Booties

Here they are! In my opinion simply gorgeous.

I used the brown colour run from a scrap of Noro Kureyon Sock yarn to do the double crochet (sc in American terms) around the edges and I love the texture and slight contrast that it gives to the booties.  It's great to have another lovely project finished but it won't be long before another pair of these are on the needles. The designer, Julia Noskova, has a gorgeous girly pair of booties that I think I will start next.

It's a bitterly cold weekend here in the outskirts of Melbourne so I've been indoors indulging in the enjoyment of yesterday's baking - trying to stop at one but that is impossible.

Jeff and Kimberley have braved the cold and drizzling rain to go to the footy to see Kim's beloved Carlton play the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium. It's an evening match so it is going to be cold! I would rather be tucked up warm inside. I did make a quick dash in the rain to cut some daphne flowers because they smell soo.. good - natures own air freshener.

All in all a very laid back, cozy and restful weekend spent doing not much at all.

Very Cute Baby Booties

Stay tuned because this mess is soon to be the cutiest baby booties ever. Maybe not ever but they are certainly very sweet. The pattern is Stream Baby Booties by Julia Noskova. It is a wonderfully well written pattern but I had initial problems with forgetting they are knitted flat and whether to pick up stitches through one loop or two and also the wrong choice of yarn. All totally my fault! Now I am on track and nearly finished. The yarn I am using is Moda Vera Precious which is a scrumptious cashmere wool blend in a light beige colour that knits to a sport weight rather than a DK 8ply.
