A moment of madness

While I was out browsing in Adairs linen store the other day a  crocheted throw caught my eye. I would have bought it except that it was $475 and I knew I could make one nearly identical to it so I left the store before I was tempted to add that to my already expensive purchase. I had chosen a light grey and white quilted cover and matching pillowcases and all the way home I was wondering how I was going to make the throw and what yarn I would use that would compliment my new purchase.

I had the perfect solution. A somewhat crazy solution but it is working..

I had the right colour yarn, a lovely wool yarn, but it was too thick and I needed more of it. To make my yarn stretch as far as I could I separated it into three strands. Now my yarn is thin lace weight but perfect for the crochet pattern and I have three times as much yarn. To replicate this throw I needed it to be light as a feather and large enough to squish up and look soft and comfy.

To make the throw I am using one of the variations of the Japanese flower motif and joining them together and crocheting in many of the ends as I go. The yarn is a medium grey with a very slight lighter grey fleck through it. I planned to make the whole thing in the grey but I may add a splash of colour by using something different for a select few of the motifs.

It is growing surprisingly fast and the motif is addictive to work.

I'm loving it already!
