GREAT TRAIN RACE
Last Sunday, May 2nd, saw the 29th running of the annual Great Train Race. It is a popular event in our neck of the woods and it is quite a spectacular sight. It is a race where Puffing Billy versus the people. Runners are limited to 3,000 for the 13.2 kilometre fun run but there are lots of spectators along the route to cheer them on.
The race was won in 43 minutes 39 seconds. Good old Puffing Billy crossed the line at 51 minutes 49 seconds.
Puffing Billy is a century old steam train that runs on its original narrow gauge track through fern gullies and farmlands of the Dandenong Ranges. Its haunting whistle can be heard for miles and it is lovely to wait outside Shannon's school at pick up time and hear the train roll by and the whistle blow as it comes into the station.
Cheers,
Lynda

Of all the postcards you sent the one with the picture of that train is my favorite! I can't wait to see it someday.
