The Power of Fish

Take a look at what Ash brought home for me today! One mention of good fishing in the US  and he was thinking he and I could do a road trip together. He was off to the travel agent for brochures. He has planned a drive holiday up the pacific coast (all be it in his head). Knowing Ash's determination this might just happen!

Not the Natural Winter Kit Cowl

What to do with bulky weight Noro Iro? This is a difficult yarn to use. The colours are so appealling but it's expensive yarn so I only bought one skein  with the thought of making a cowl. I chose the Natural Winter Kit from Pickles but after the first round I made a mistake with the pattern and decided to continue on regardless as I had knitted too much to pull back and start again. The pattern was looking  ok, slightly different to the original pattern, but I liked it. Now it is finished I'm not sure about the stitch. It looks very much like a dropped stitch but of course it isn't. I like the thick columns though.

I've made this the right side and left the loops for the back.

It's long enough to wrap twice around the neck. Time will tell if I frog, gift or keep this one.

A Bush Walk

Where did the weekend go? I don't know. One minute it was Friday evening and we were comtemplating all the things that we needed to do over the weekend and the next thing it's Sunday night. Not much was achieved for two days but hubby and I decided after lunch today that we would walk the bush tracks near home. We hadn't been walking in this area for awhile and it is lovely to have natural bush just two or three minutes from our door. This bushland escaped the last bushfires that raged on the other side of the road and came within metres of this land. It is home to many indigenous plant species and fauna including koalas, wombats, eagles and kookaburras.

There are several interlinking tracks through an area of approximately 100 acres and most are easy walks with changing views and vegetation.

It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

A Pyramid Sachet

If sweet described a project then this would be it!  I love this little sachet. It was fun to knit too. It's basically the Pyramid Sachet by Joelle Hoverson and the pattern is from her book More Last Minute  Knitted Gifts. I don't have the book with the pattern but I made up my own pattern following the shape of the pyramid. I used the invisible cast on often used for toe up socks and I used kitchener stitch to close the live stitches. This way there are no seams at all. I used Noro Kureyon Sock yarn scraps to make the sachet. It looks slightly different to the original pattern but I wanted to make it my way!

The Guernsey Wrap by Jared Flood

With  lovely, sunny, 30C temperatures the last few days it is hard to think it will soon be cold enough to wear this wrap. It's sitting folded on the bed end cupboard so I can admire it even if I can't wear it at this very moment.  I chose a Patons Australia Wool Tweed DK in a red/purple colour for this project. I had the yarn in my stash waiting for the perfect pattern and the Guernsey Wrap was the perfect pattern. I had just the right amount of this yarn too. Can you imagine that - it was meant to be! The textures suit the tweed wool and together they give the wrap a country but classy feel. Yes, Erin, I am going to strut around town in this wrap.

This was a pleasure to knit and is one of those feel good projects. Can't wait to wear it!

Kiddie Crayon Art

Such a simple project but it has a very appealing effect and is easy for kids of any age to do.

Upsized

Ross went to Captain America's Hamburger Heaven for dinner yesterday. They have a competion where you have to eat a huge burger and fries in the fastest time. Ross starved himself all day for this event and still couldn't finish.

This is a one kilogram burger with 600 grams of fries. The world record for eating this plate full of food is just over 8 minutes for men and 16 minutes for women. (Is there a woman out there that would actually eat all this?)

He ate this much in 28 minutes and had to give up because he was just too full!

Autumn

It was a cold and dreary start to Autumn. Not exactly unpleasant because I love Autumn with its crisp, foggy mornings and the midday sun warm and bright in the sky but a sure sign that the hot days of Summer are coming to a close. During Autumn the chill in the mornings and evenings shout that Winter is on its way. We have such distinct seasons here in Melbourne and there is something to like about each of them. For Autumn it's the glorious colours and soon the hills will be alight with fiery colours of yellows, reds, browns and purples.

Today I picked up a small handful of acorns that were lying under a massive oak tree and immediately thought of the saying -
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow"
and the quote meaning the same thing that I think is just darling from Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde, 1374
"an ook cometh of a litel spyr".

I put the nail polish to use on a few of these acorns and they look so colourful and cheery. Bright enough to rival a Springtime daffodil!

Time to bring out the hand knits again! If you're happy and you know it clap your hands, clap clap!!

Cheers,
Lynda
